Little Stars School provides a free education for more than 600 children from underprivileged homes in Nagwa, Varanasi, India. It is the only school of its kind in Varanasi providing quality education to children from poor families from pre-nursery thru 10th grade. The school depends totally on private donations and sponsorships as it is not funded by the government or big agencies.

The demand for this kind of education is growing. We are currently working to expand the school on a plot very close to the present building especially for grade 6 to 12. Our students can access a complete education and even have the opportunity to attend university.

Asha Pandey is the founder and director of LSS.

Sandeep Verma (class 10)
Sandeep is the son of an alcoholic father. His mother cleans dishes in other houses. He explains their daily life, "My father grabs all the money of my mother. After school I work the whole night in a cycle stand of a nearby hospital. After that I come to school in the morning. I hope to become a soldier."

Hostel for Street and Orphan Girls

In 2004, recognizing there were no safe hostels in the city for street girls, Asha Pandey, with the generous help of friends from Italy, opened one on the 3rd floor of the school. There are now 22 hostel girls who are attending the day school being raised in a family atmosphere.
